We are so excited to be welcoming Karina Carter of Rag Rugs by Karina to the studio!
In her two day workshop, Karina will teach you how to weave a rug using recycled materials like old sheets, or maybe some of your quilting stash! Each student will be provided a custom built weaving loom which is yours to keep following class so that you can keep on weaving! Now tell me that won’t come in handy with Christmas around the corner!

Always wanted to make a quilt? Let us teach you how in this beginner quilting workshop with a lap sized Trip Around the World! This quilt is a traditional pattern that you can spice up with vibrant fabrics…wait until you see our Christmas version!
In this class you will learn the basics of cutting and piecing, basting, machine quilting and binding. All of the skills to get your started on your quilty journey. You should be comfortable using a sewing machine to take this class, but no quilting experience required.
The finished quilt will be 67” square

Use a sewing machine and thread to sculpt a beautiful cotton rope bowl or basket. You’ll get lost in the meditative process and be inspired by the endless possibilities of colour and design. This is a great way to practice and improve your machine handling skills, too!

Bring your Maritime pride to life while you build your skills learning Raw-edge applique and free motion quilting (no experience necessary!). You will leave the class with a 12” x 12” map featuring Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, PEI, western part of New Brunswick ready for framing!

Learn how to sew a hot soup bowl cozy to protect your fingers and your furniture from hot bowls of hot soup, chili, oatmeal, etc with a fabric bowl cozy that is attractive and very functional. Add in a Hot Pad and you have sweet custom made gifts all year long!

Is learning to sew on your bucket list? This class is for you! In this workshop you will make these sweet drawstring bags. They make a great gift, or the perfect eco-friendly, reusable wrapping.
While you make your bag you will learn all the basics - getting to know your sewing machine including winding the bobbin, threading the machine, stitch length, tension, speed, running stitch, zigzag stitch, reverse stitch, seam allowance. Also the importance of ironing and the art of turning corners.
THURSDAY November 22: 6:00 to 9:00 pm
Nervous to tackle applique? This class will wash all those nerves away! In this beautiful block Julia will lead you through four applique skills including fused raw edge applique, needle-turn applique, paper-turn applique, and making and working with bias strips. You will leave the class with a block you could turn into a pillow or a wall hanging and all the skills you need to tackle your next applique project!

With a modern, slim fit ideal for layering, the Lark Tee is your closet’s new best friend. It’s great on its own or under your favorite button up, sweater, or blazer. All four sleeves are interchangeable with each of the necklines resulting in 16 potential different tees in one pattern!
Techniques involved include sewing with knits, straight seams, and attaching binding.
SATURDAYS November 10, 17 and 24 : 5:00 to 9:00 pm
The third piece in our Capsule wardrobe, the Tamarack jacket is designed with the transitional seasons in mind. It is a warm and stylish quilted coat perfect for spring and fall layering. Follow one of the two quilting designs included, or design your own to make your Tamarack totally original to you! You’ll stay toasty thanks to the inner layer of cotton or wool batting, while the roomy welt pockets will keep your belongings safe and your hands warm.
Techniques involved include straight seams, basic quilting, inserting a welt pocket, and applying bias binding.

Have you ever thought that you'd like to make a family Advent Calendar, but weren't sure how? Let us help! Join us for our class and make an Advent Calendar you can use for years.
The Advent Calendar is perfect to hang over a door or other narrow wall, with 24 (of course!) numbered pockets ready to be filled with candy, small toys or personalized message cards. The Calendar has 4.5 by 5 inch pockets and a finished size of 21 by 37 inches
This class will use the Fabrications Advent Calendar kits and are included in the cost of the class. The kits contain everything you need to make your calendar. Just add a dowel for hanging!
This is a four hour class for Advanced Beginners. You should be comfortable using a sewing machine, pinning layers of fabric together and ironing.
SUNDAY December 2: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Whether you are planning to get your tree dressed up for Christmas, or looking for a gift for someone special, the Classic Tree Skirt class is for you! We will spend a December Sunday morning together, throw on the Christmas tunes and sew this simple skirt. You can dress it up or down with your fabric and trimming choices.
SUNDAYS November 4, 11, 18 & 25: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
We are excited to offer a new learn to sew class at Seam Work! in this four part series, you will spend Sunday mornings learning how to sew and work on your own projects.
During our first class you will sew a half apron that you can keep for yourself or give as a Christmas gift. Classes two through four will be individualized, allowing you to work on projects of your own choice and to progress at your own pace.
Seam Work is equipped with Janome sewing machines for the class, but Dionne also encourages you to consider bringing your sewing machine from home so that you will become more comfortable using it.

· How to determine which type and how much fabric (and notions) are required
· Fabric preparation
· Pattern preparation
· How to read a pattern
· Pattern layout & cutting
· How to assemble your pattern

Join in the fun and finish those projects in time for the holidays!
Here’s a chance for you to get those unfinished projects done while having fun and being inspired by the group. Bring your own project to work on, or get inspired and start a new one! We have room for six, sewing machines and studio equipment are there for you to use. Bring your lunch or supper, we'll bring the cookies!
For these sessions we ask for a flat fee of $10 instead of worrying about hourly machine rentals.
In the spirit of the season we are asking for a donation of adult socks or mittens for the homeless in Halifax when you attend a session.
Using Studio Time
Our 6 Janome sewing machines and studio tools are available for rental by the hour so you can work on your own projects at your own pace. Come by yourself or with friends and find your inspiration in our big, bright workshop while you make use of our large cutting table, irons and ironing boards.
Rentals are $7 per hour. Or Prepay for a reduced rate: 5 hours for $30, 10 hours for $50
You purchase the Sewing Machine rental Punch Cards in the Class listing area. When you come into the shop after buying online you will receive a card marked with the number of hours you have prepaid for. Card will be punched as hours used.
