Always wanted to make a quilt? Let us teach you how in this beginner quilting workshop with a modern baby quilt. The HST Baby was designed by Adrienne Klenck and works great with solid and patterned prints.
In this class you will learn the basics of cutting and piecing, basting, machine quilting and binding. All of the skills to get your started on your quilty journey. You should be comfortable using a sewing machine to take this class, but no quilt experience required.
THURSDAY JUNE 14, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
This fun and practical basket will be a project you come back to again and again. The perfect size for keeping kitchen gadgets, filling with diapers for a baby shower, or even stowing your fabric scraps, this basket is a perfect gift and will literally take you an hour to put together once you learn how!
In the class you will learn about using fusibles and making perfect boxed corners. As an extra special treat - you will get to work with cork!
TUESDAY June 19: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
This is the second Block in our Skill Builder Series!
With the Economy Star you will focus on perfecting your piecing skills, explore color placement to spice up your blocks and learn three different traditional quilt blocks; flying geese, economy squares and a traditional star, all culminating in one !2” finished block which you can use in another project like a tote or a pillow, or put a few together to make a quilt or a table runner!
THURSDAY, June 21, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
LEARN to REUSE your old t-shirts to REPLACE your plastic bags This two hour sewing instruction will teach you how to convert your old t-shirts into shopping bags. You will leave with a reusable pattern and your own created shopping bag. The t-shirt, thread and pattern are provided. You will leave with a reusable pattern and a new sack bag, and a new sewing experience.
SUNDAY June 24: 12:00 to 4:00 pm
Is learning to sew on your bucket list? This class is for you! In this workshop you will make your own pillow case while you learn the basics - getting to know your sewing machine including winding the bobbin, threading the machine, stitch length, tension, speed, running stitch, zigzag stitch, reverse stitch, seam allowance. Also the importance of ironing and the art of turning corners.
SATURDAY July 7: 11:00 am to 2:00 pm
Nervous to tackle applique? This class will wash all those nerves away! In this beautiful summer block Julia will lead you through four applique skills including fused raw edge applique, needle-turn applique, paper-turn applique, and making and working with bias strips. You will leave the class with a block you could turn into a pillow or a wall hanging and all the skills you need to tackle your next applique project!

SATURDAY July 14, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm
Use a sewing machine and thread to sculpt a beautiful cotton rope bowl or basket. You’ll get lost in the meditative process and be inspired by the endless possibilities of colour and design. This is a great way to practice and improve your machine handling skills, too!
SUNDAYS July 22 and 29 - 11:00 to 3:00 pm
The Ruby Dress and Top Sewing Pattern is a great project for the beginner sewist who wants to give garment sewing a try! The pattern features a contrast yoke and gathers for a comfortable and flattering fit without the need for bust darts, zippers, or closures. The armholes and neckline are bias-bound for an easy finish. Nine women’s sizes in two lengths are included; the dress falls above the knee, while the top ends right at the hip.
Using Studio Time
Our 6 Janome sewing machines and studio tools are available for rental by the hour so you can work on your own projects at your own pace. Come by yourself or with friends and find your inspiration in our big, bright workshop while you make use of our large cutting table, irons and ironing boards.
Rentals are $7 per hour. Or Prepay for a reduced rate: 5 hours for $30, 10 hours for $50
You purchase the Sewing Machine rental Punch Cards in the Class listing area. When you come into the shop after buying online you will receive a card marked with the number of hours you have prepaid for. Card will be punched as hours used.
