Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Do you fix sewing machines?
Answer: We do not fix sewing machines other than our own in studio Janome machines. There are several reputable sewing machine repair shops in the HRM.

Question: If I have my own sewing machine can I bring it to class and you can teach me how to use it?
Answer: We can only teach you how to use our in-house Janome Sewing machines. We would suggest that you can learn the basic sewing functions of a sewing machine on any machine. If you take one of our Learn to Sew Classes you will come away with enough knowledge to use your own machine.

You are always welcome to bring your own sewing machine to the studio to use in class or during Open Studio, but it should be in good working order and you should know how to use it.

Question: I have a project that I started but never finished. If I bring it in can you help me finish it?
Answer: We are always open to quilting / sewing consults, but we cannot always guarantee that the person minding the studio when you come in will have the experience needed about your particular project to give you the right advice.

For quilting projects, we offer Private Quilting Lessons. Adrienne Klenck, Owner of Seam Work has 20 years of quilting experience and can offer private one on one lessons to help you with your quilting project. Private lessons are $50 per hour. Adrienne will work with each student to determine a plan for class hours needed based on the individual project.

Question: What is your cancellation policy?
Answer: All classes are to be paid in full at time of registration. There are no cancellations or refunds; you can transfer the class to a friend or someone on the waitlist. If we have to cancel a class due to low registration you will be refunded in full. Classes may occasionally need to be rescheduled due to inclement weather or teacher illness. You will be contacted by phone or email in such an event.

Question: What is the age limit for kids classes? Is a parent required to stay in the class?
Answer: We will be offering a MYSM (Meet Your Sewing Machine) for independent 8+-year-olds. The class will be a four hour session. You can see the calendar for class times.

Question: Do you have regular business hours?
Answer: No. We are a family run small business so need to keep our business flexible with life! The studio is scheduled to be open around Seam Work Classes and Open Studio Times (where hourly sewing machines rentals are available), you can see our calendar for up to date class listings and open studio times. We will also offer flexible scheduling of/for?? Private Quilting lessons and Studio rental time
